Throughout the month of November, Nakasuk School, Iqaluit, underwent
construction to improve air quality. This repair work was completed in the
evenings and on weekends so as not to interrupt student instructional time.

We thank the Students and Staff at Nakasuk School for accommodating the
workers by completing preparation tasks at home. As well, we appreciate the
efforts of CGS, the Nunavut Department of Education, in particular Barry
Cornthwaite, to ensure this process worked well for us and did not have any
negative impact on the delivery of our curriculum. Thank you all!

We especially thank the project contractor, Shawn Rankin and his team from
Indoor Air Quality Ottawa, for donating over 11,000 Nutri-Grain Bars to
Nakasuk School. This generous gesture will be a great support for our
Breakfast, Lunch and Snack Programs.

Thank you IAQ Ottawa

"I want to say again how grateful I am to you for finding this mold-free house, and for all your kindness over many years."

-Jim Thompson

The air quality services were both professional and informative. The investigation determined our HVAC design defects and a suitable remedy was included in the informative Power Point presented at the conclusion of the project.

I ordered Nakasuk School closed in order to address a mould and asbestos issue in the school's crawl space. The school was shut down, classes held off site and made ready for the remediation process. IAQ was the firm hired to oversee the clean up. The word was done professionally and to the strict Ontario standards for mould/asbestos abatement. Following the 6 weeks of intensive clean up the school was cleared for occupancy, which is a reflection of the professionalism of IAQ's staff.

Of late Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) has been an integral departmental resource for the facility assessment of our 44 schools in nunavut. We tasked IAQ to assess our schools from all aspects of our operations from safety and building access for the disabled to how well the building's heating, ventilation and air handling systems function. The reports were thorough, detailed and well documented with digital photos.

As a result of IAQ's report we are now in the process of determining a course of action to address the outstanding deficiencies.

I am very pleased with the work done by IAQ and offer this letter as one of support for the continued services fo IAQ lead by Mr. Shawn Rankin.

Dear Shawn

On behalf of the May Court Club of Ottawa I am pleased to provide this letter of reference for you and your company. Since the beginning of our collaboration I have known you to be a conscientious and dependable person.

When the air quality issue came to light at The Hospice at May Court and The May Court Club of Ottawa, our Board felt a great deal of concern about its impact on the patients and staff of the Hospice as well as our club members. Since the Board had little expertise in the field of air quality it was imperative to hire a knowledgeable expert whom we could trust to be honest, reliable and diligent. You filled that role extremely well.

At our first meeting your excellent communications skills and indepth knowledge of your field helped us clearly understand the overall picture of what was happening in the building, as well as the ramifications of any decisions we made. The fact that you have a great deal of knowledge about building standards and construction as well as air quality was most useful. The individual copies of the information which connected with your presentation and the many photos you included helped clarify the problems.

We have a great appreciation for the integrity with which you approach your work. Your insistence on compliance with Ministry of Labor and Ontario Safety Association for Community Health Care HVAC Air Quality standards were reassuring to us since some of our problems stemmed from short cuts taken during building work years before.
In helping us set up a "Scope of Work" and meeting the goals set in a timely manner, a job that seemed overwhelming at the beginning was broken down into manageable segments and is now coming to an end. Your efficiency has saved us time, money and a great deal of stress. Despite your busy schedule we always felt you were available when we had issues to discuss and you were most personable and easy to work with.

I thank you for the excellent job you have done. I have no hesitation at all in recommending you to others and in fact would be most pleased to do so. We wish you great success in the years to come.

Yours truly,
Margie Howsam

I have worked with Mr. Shawn Rankin of Indoor Air Quality Ottawa (IAQ Ottawa) on a number of difficult building challenges. Mr. Rankin's approach with the building occupant regarding investigation methodology and transparency has defused landlord-tenant tensions and encouraged cooperation with management-client building solutions.
I have also participated in Mr. Rankin's Indoor Environmentalist five (5) day course: Introduction to Northern Air Quality" and found the course content and approach beneficial to my property management duties.
Sincerely,

I have had an opportunity to work with Shawn Rankin and his firm on a variety of assignments involving the investigation of indoor air quality issues.
Shawn has provided testing and reporting services on a number of Government of Nunavut buildings. Shawn has prepared remedial action plans and monitored the work in progress. He has worked closely with our staff and contractors to deliver a quality product. Shawn has also provided staff training to the Government of Nunavut through workshops and on site hands on demonstrations.
Shawn was successful in winning a two year Standing Offer Agreement to provide indoor air quality and environmental assessments as and when required on all buildings within Nunavut.
Shawn has provided excellent services especially considering the logistical challenges of working in Canada’s Arctic.
We do not hesitate to recommend Shawn to any client seeking professional services in this field.
Sincerely,
Larry Gordon,

To Whom it May Concern,
The air quality services provided by Indoor Air Quality Ottawa regarding the University swimming pool were both professional and informative. The investigation technique involved air flow calculations, ventilation eff~ctiveness, pool chemical surveys and building defect recognition. The investigation determined our HVAC design defects and a suitable remedy was included in the informative Power Point presented at the conclusion of the project.

Dear Shawn,
We wanted to take a moment and write to you to let you know what a difference your visit has made in our lives! For several years we have been smelling an odour from time to time. We finally decided to call your office and have you come out to test our home! It was the best thing we could have done for our well being. My husband had been suffering for a year and half from dizziness and hearing loss. He underwent many medical tests and no one could find anything wrong with him but the dizziness continued. Indoor Air Quality Ottawa solved our problems. They were empathetic to our pleas of help and Shawn educated us on how a home should work. Something that we had never given much thought to. He discovered many problems and one by one we fixed them and now we can say our indoor air quality is as fresh as the outdoors!
We can now report that the smell has disappeared and my husband’s symptoms have as well! We can’t thank you enough.
Regards,
Jane & Ralph Cosh
